When was the last time you lay down, closed your eyes and did absolutely nothing?
No phone. No to-do list. No thinking about what needs doing next.
For me, that's the beauty of a sound bath. It's one of the few experiences where I find myself genuinely able to let go of everything else.
If you've never tried one, a sound bath involves lying comfortably while a practitioner plays instruments such as singing bowls, gongs and chimes. You're immersed in layers of sound that seem to move around and through you.
This Is What I Love the Most
There's no expectation to do anything, achieve anything or even be particularly good at relaxing.
I've always found meditation challenging. Sitting quietly and trying not to think is almost an invitation for my mind to start working through tomorrow's to-do list.
But with a sound bath, it's different.
The sounds reverberate around you, filling that space and giving your mind somewhere to go without having to think.
The sounds reverberate around you, filling that space and giving your mind somewhere to go without having to think. It's difficult to worry about everything you need to do when you're completely immersed in the experience.
I love that feeling of being held, of allowing the sound to take over.
And for a little while, everything else can wait.
Every Practitioner Brings Something Different
Something I've discovered is that no two sound baths are ever quite the same.
At The Shift, we're fortunate to work with a variety of talented practitioners, each bringing their own experience, personality and approach. Two of those practitioners are Philippa Crampton and Emma from EmPower Healing, whose sessions demonstrate just how varied sound baths can be.
Philippa Crampton from A Sacred Pause brings a wonderfully spiritual dimension to her sessions.
Her Crystal Singing Bowl sound bath immersions feature alchemy bowls tuned to 432Hz, creating a soothing environment designed to help the body and nervous system settle into a restorative state. The intention is to allow your own natural capacity for balance, integration and wellbeing to gently emerge.
Philippa also incorporates light language into her practice, which I find particularly beautiful. There's something ancient and incredibly kind about the sounds. I can't explain exactly why, but it feels comforting, almost familiar.
Philippa describes her approach as an invitation to soften into stillness and remember your own natural harmony. I think that's a beautiful way of putting it.
Emma from EmPower Healing brings her own distinctive approach to sound healing, drawing on her training as a certified sound healing practitioner and holistic health coach. Her sessions are thoughtfully designed around relaxation, restoration and supporting the nervous system. There's a real sense of knowledge, care and intention behind her practice, creating an experience that feels deeply nurturing.
What I particularly appreciate is that Emma brings together her understanding of wellbeing with the power of sound, offering something that feels both purposeful and calming.
They're just two examples of the practitioners who contribute to The Shift experiences. Each brings something different, and I love that our guests have the opportunity to discover different approaches to sound healing.
You don't have to subscribe to a particular philosophy, understand the instruments or even believe in sound healing to enjoy the experience.
You simply have to be open to it.
Why Sound Baths Are Part of Every Shift Experience
When I created The Shift, I wanted to bring together the things that had genuinely helped me find moments of calm in an otherwise busy life.
Not things I thought people should do. Things I actually loved doing.
Sound baths were always going to be part of that.
Whether you're feeling overwhelmed, mentally exhausted or simply struggling to find time for yourself, there's something special about an experience where nothing is expected of you.
It's why sound baths feature in every Feel The Shift gathering and retreat experience. By working with different practitioners, we can offer a variety of experiences, each with its own character, while keeping that opportunity to pause and reconnect at the heart of what we do.
I want people to discover how good it can feel to step away from the demands of everyday life and have time that's entirely their own.
Come and Feel the Shift
If you've never experienced a sound bath, I'd really encourage you to try one.
You don't need to be spiritual. You don't need to meditate. And you certainly don't need to know what you're doing.
Just arrive as you are.
With love,
Clare
